Something a little different

December 10, 2009

Most girls through their childhood have dreams of how they see their wedding day.  It most cases, it’s all floating big white dresses, flowers displayed it all possible spaces, a church choir singing with angelic voices in the beautiful village Church…

However, you’re going to spend at least £10,000 ( or that’s how much they reckon – at the least!)  so why not be a little different and give everyone something to remember your day by…

  • How about diving out of an aeroplane? – with the Vicar still by the side of you!
  • Get married under water perhaps – wearing your diving equipment?
  • Rise above it all in a Hot Air Balloon – sipping Champagne?
  • Or drive round your favourite City on an open top bus?

No – not for you?  Back to tradition and your girly dreams so Church it is then!!

Stationery

December 9, 2009

You can’t just go down to your local supermarket these days and get a pad of invitations to fill out and send to your guests.

No, no no you end up having to make sure even the cards match your colour scheme.  You have the invites, day and evening – normally different for different guests, which include a ‘reply’ card for them to return to you, plus the ‘Order of Services’ , and then there’s the table menus and then the place name cards and the main table plan – the list goes on!  And now, can you believe it,  you send out a ’save the date card’!!  It’s ridiculous – no wonder getting married these days is soooo expensive!

Your Dream day at last!

December 9, 2009

It’s a day that you have been thinking about since you were a little girl.  You’ve found the man of your dreams so now you can have the day of your dreams – at last!

But it can seem a bit daunting to begin with.  There is so much information out there, so many things to think about and arrange it’s difficult to know where to start.

Your first task for your wedding day would be to arrange the venue – sometimes there can be at least a 2 year waiting list!!  It all depends on you  both as a couple -most go for a church others a hotel.  My friend got married on a bandstand in the grounds of a hotel – luckily the weather was sunny and warm (which for England is a miracle) but it looked beautiful and was something a little bit different!

Once this is organised you know how long you have to find the perfect wedding dress.  So many styles, so many colours,  so many shopping days to drag your mum and bridesmaids on!!

Organising a wedding creates many a conversation but friends and family don’t always understand or have thet ime to be as involved as they would like to be.

So, I have found a great site which enables you to chat to other ‘brides-to-be’ so you can share your thoughts  and discuss the dramas that you can almost guarantee will happen somewhere along the way!

It also gives you a wealth of information and ideas to guide you in the right direction so you have a perfect day.

Photos

December 7, 2009

Right OK?  I’ve been through this whole wedding malarky myself so kind of know what’s it’s all about.

You want to capture as many moments of the biggest day of your life as you possiblyy can, so you have the photos done professional and have someone bobbing around with a vieo camera.  Bits are captured that you possbilby don’t have the time to see for yourself.  It’s all fab and you have the memories to treasure for ever.

However, the photos take at least 2 hours of your day away from you – memories of romantic  poses I would never normally find myself or my husband in and tehn end up paying a fortune for.

I think, if I ever had my time again, I would leave the professional phots aside and ask for friends and family to share theirs around. To me the day flies past enough so I would rather spend as much time as I can sharing my biggest and most specailist day of my life with my bestest and specialfriends and family than looking down the lense of a camera.

And the last thing once you’ve looked at them and showed them to everyone – they then get put in the draw for the next 20 years to gather dust!

Learn to Dance.

December 1, 2009

Ok, so you’ve managed to walk downthe aisle without tripping over your big white dress.  You’ve both said your vows without too much crying ending up with mascara running down your beautifully made up face.

The dinner has been eaten with the wine  flowing by the bucket load. The speeches have made people laugh with all the childhood tales being told and tears shed – again from sincere and heartfelt words about the bride.

It;s now time for your first dance, the lights are low, the tune and song which brought you together is playing and how do you dance?  Do you just go round and round in circles falling over each other toes, and your new husband tripping over your dress?

No no no!  Wind back the clock 12 months and get yourself some dancing lessons!  My husband and I spent 12 months in the run up to our wedding having Ballroom dance lesosns.  It was a bit out of our league but didn’t tell a soul we were going.  Can you imagine everyones faces as we broke into the Waltz in our first dance.  It was amazing and well worth all the hard work and tiffss we had in practising!

Celebrity Weddings

November 19, 2009

Don’t you just love a tacky celebrity wedding. Hideous dresses, over dramatic settings and a group of Z lister’s making up the numbers. Take Katie Price and Peter Andre for example, how OTT was their wedding?!!  A horse drawn carriage and a hideous pink dress along with diamante corset and an over sized tiara, pass me the sick bucket! The white suit Pete was sporting wasn’t the greatest either.

Many people have tried to compete with celebrity weddings and have tried their best to recreate the day. Would you do this? Or do you know someone that has done this? If you have, let me know!!

Wedding Invitations

November 18, 2009

Deciding who you want to attend your special day is hard enough, let alone thinking about what wedding invitations to use. Do you invite everyone you know including the lady you met at the shops the other week, or do you just keep it intimate?

You might chose to have your picture on the front of the invitation to give it that personal touch or you might just go for a traditional white card with a small floral image.

You can chose to even have the menu’s and order of service to match your wedding invites, most stationers will be able to supply you with the full package.

Whether you decide to be extravagant or buy on a budget, make your invites special.

Getting Engaged!

November 17, 2009

I had a phone call off my friend earlier, she wanted to let me know that her boyfriend had proposed to her over the weekend! I am sooo excited for her! For a man, it must be hard to think of a special way to ask your wife to be to marry you. Do you take her to a romantic destination and get down on one knee? Do you whisk her away to a foreign country and ask her over a candle lit dinner or do you just pop the question whilst she is doing the ironing?

My friend’s boyfriend put a cheque for £3000 in her birthday card, got down on one knee and gave her a Haribo ring. If you knew my friend, you would know that she would have to pick the ring herself and it seems her boyfriend knows it too!

What do you think, is the most romantic way to pop the question?

Wedding Cakes

November 11, 2009

It’s nearly lunch time, so all I can think about is food!! That’s why today’s blog post is going to be about cake, wedding cake!

Picking your wedding cake is exciting stuff. Do you go for a mountain of mini cup cakes, a scrumptious chocolate cake or a tiered luxury cake with statues or you and your husband to be on top?!

You can normally get your cake designed exactly how you want it, or if you chose to, you can nip to the shop and buy a simple one which will taste just as yummy.

It doesn’t all just stop at a fruit or chocolate cake though. You could go for a coffee and walnut cake with a Mocha chocolate ganache filling if you dare!!

Get married abroad

November 10, 2009

More and more people are deciding to get married abroad. White sands, blue skies and your honeymoon all rolled into one.

There are loads of great value packages out there and it can all be done on a budget. Whether you chose to celebrate on a beautiful beach or in a chapel, your day will run smoothly without anything to worry about.

Forget about having to sort out the paper work and accommodation for your guests, this is normally included in the price of the package and you will get your own wedding coordinator who will be there to make sure that everything runs smoothly.
